Text 1 (no. 1 – 5)
For the first time in the studio’s history, Marvel Studios released three brand new films in 2017. They kicked things off with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in May, followed by the Sony-distributed Spider-Man: Homecoming in July, and now the third and final (and best?) Has hit theaters: Thor: Ragnarok.
The Thor franchise has been something of a red-headed stepchild in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but director Taika Waititi’s silly, euphorically joyous third installment is a Thor-series high and has earned some of the best reviews of any Marvel Studios movie in history.
While the subtitle promises an Asgard-ending catastrophic event, Waititi opted to put a spotlight on Chris Hemsworth’s comedic chops and essentially reinvent the character as a hilarious, self-aware yet cocksure God of Thunder who just wants to save his home planet. The result is an incredibly fun ride that leans into the chemistry between Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, as well as Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. For that matter, it is great to have Loki back in the MCU, and the film does a tremendous job of weaving the story of the villain Hela (Cate Blanchett) into the story of Thor and Loki in an organic way.
Some may be dismayed at Blanchett’s underuse, but I think she knew exactly what she signed up for: to chew the scenery and look great doing it. In that regard, I think Hela is a successful if not terribly deep Marvel villain. But the breakout of the film is surely Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, from whom I hope we see a lot more in the MCU to come.
1. How many films have Marvel Studios released in 2017 so far?
2. Who directed the Thor: Ragnarok?
3. What is considered by the reviewer as the breakout of the film?
4. See paragraph 3!
“ … the character as a hilarious, …”
The underlined word can be replaced with ….

Text 2 (no. 6-10)
Habibie & Ainun tells the love story of the third president of Indonesia, Bacharuddin Jusuf habibie and his wife, Ainun Habibie. The story flows very smoothly with the climax being his rising career as Research and Technology Minister to the Vice Presidency later to the Presidency after the nation’s reformation in 1998, followed by Ainun’s health deterioration which caused her death. The saddest part was when Ibu Ainun could not cope with several surgeries to remove her ovarian cancer that had spread out through her body. What would you call a pure, real, and eternal love of a man? His description about love, which I could not imagine, is repeated in this book quite often. The author tells that their struggles for Ainun’s recovery in several sanitariums in Europe were romantic memories they shared.
There are thirty seven chapters in the book. The first to fifteenth chapters are very easy to follow. However, the hardest part comprises the chapter when Habibie explains the technicalities of projects and achievements in his restless work during his attachment to the Development Cabinet (in chapter 17 to 30). I had to read several times to understand his thinking, but I found it very interesting. I am quite impressed by Habibie’s writing style. He positions himself as the subject as if he was sitting in front of me while I was listening to him.
The book has now been translated into English, Dutch, and German, and shortly will be in Japanese. The moral of the story emphasizes that it is very important to focus on our life’s goals. Be passionate about what we do, and love our country, and that support from family and true eternal love is important. All in all, Habibie-Ainun’s love story is more romantic that Romeo-Juliet’s love story. The tale of Romeo and Juliet was fictional, but habibie and Ainun’s story is real.
6. The purpose of the text above is …
7. The book consists of … chapters.
8. Which part of the book is considered very hard to follow?
9. Statements below are true, except …
10. See the second paragraph!
“I am quite impressed by Habibie’s writing style.”

‘The sun goes too fast,’ Maui said. ‘The nights are too long. The days are too short. There isn't enough time to do everything.’
His brothers said, ‘We agree, but we can't make the sun go more slowly.’ 'Yes, we can,' Maui said. 'I have a plan.',Maui and his brothers went to the hole where the sun came up each day. They took some ropes with them. They hid so that the sun did not see them.
When the sun came up, they threw the ropes over it. 'Pull! Pull!' Maui shouted. 'Let me go! Let me go!' cried the sun. The sun pulled and pulled, but it could not get free. The sun got very tired. 'Let go of the ropes,' said Maui. 'The sun will not be able to go so fast now. '
The brothers let go of the ropes. The sun moved slowly across the sky. It took a long time before it went down and darkness came. The sun never moved quickly again. Now Maui and his brothers had lots of time. They could do all the things they wanted - while the sun shone.

Loving Money Too Much
There was a man who liked money very much. He worked all of his life and wanted to save all of his money for his own future. He was a real miser when it came to his money. He loved money more than just about anything.
Even, just before he died, he said to his wife; "Now listen, when I die, I want you to take all my money and burry it with me. I wanna take my money to the afterlife." So he asked his wife to promise him with all her heart that when he died, she would put all the money and burry it with him.
Well, one day, he really died. Then he was stretched out in the casket. The wife was sitting there in black clothes next to her closest friend. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said "Wait just a minute!"
She had a box in her hands. She came over with the box and placed it in the casket. After that the undertakers locked the casket down and rolled it away. Not long after that, her friend said, "I hope you were not crazy enough to put all that money in the casket."
The wife turned to her friend and replied; "Yes, because I have promised." Then she continued; "I can't lie. I promised him that I was going to put that money in that casket with him." Feeling shocked, her friend said; "You mean that you have put every cent of his money in the casket with him?" Then the wife answered; "Surely I did. I got it all together, put all the money into my account and I just wrote him a check."

Dance with my Father (by Luther Vandross)
Back when I was a child
Before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high
And dance with my mother and me
And then
Spin me around 'till I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure
I was loved
If I could get another chance
Another walk
Another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never ever end
How I'd love love love
To dance with my father again
When I and my mother
Would disagree
To get my way I would run
From her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Yeah yeah
Then finally make me do
Just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he
Would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance
One final step
One final dance with him
I'd play…
